So I'm considering having my blog be an everyday thing. as an encouragement to get me to write everyday. some days, hopefully, i will be able to spew some short story or whatever, some days i might rant my emotions, some days i might tell you the recipe of the dinner i cooked. but i want it to be a reason to write everyday.
last night, we had a meeting with my writer's group at church. i was so excited because i wasn't able to go to the one in june and the july meting was cancelled. soon we will be back to normal and i will be seeing them once a week. i am the newest member to the group but they have totally welcomed me with open arms. my second week there, it was my birthday and they all signed a really special card. i feel like i have a neat connection with each of them. ok, enough of being mushy. haha. while sitting there waiting for everyone to finish eating and sit in our circle, i sat with my notebook and started to look for where i left off (in this group we journal at meetings. little did i know we wouldn't journal last night but oh well) as i flipped through i found pagers where i had written parts of my book during history class 2 semesters ago. i became so excited! i wanted to add more to my story NOW. but i knew that i had left off at a different place than i had last penned. (i have a habit of penning some, then copying that into the computer, then typing more before i pen again. don't know if any of you do that. but it tends to create for a loss of train of thought at times. especially when i haven't worked on my story since... MARCH!!!) anyways, despite the loss of train of thought, i realize my wonderful little notebook is the reason why I had my writer's block was because I wasn't using my notebook. i was trying to sit at my computer and you know what that means: INTERNET. GAMES. DISTRACTION. so i said fine, if i have to always keep my notebook in the trunk of my car, and another notebook in my bedroom, so that it's always available, ok, i can do that.
another thing from yesterday. i baked cupcakes. not like from a cake box and then just put them in cupcake things, no. POUND CAKE cupcakes. i probably shouldn't be putting this recipe online. but i'm one who likes to share. this recipe has been passed down from my great great grandmother. on my fathers side. my grandma that lives with me and i used to get tired of it all the time. but now i appreciate it and really like it.
1 cup butter (or crisco)
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
cream butter and sugar, add milk, eggs, and vanilla. beat well. add flour, baking powder, and salt, mix well.
bake at 350
cake style:
bunt pan: 1 hour
2 bread pans: 40 mins
CUPCAKES!!!
2 pans: 30 mins.
see its super easy. and its really yummy. you can frost them with a buttercream frosting. which is powdered sugar and milk and butter. i dont know the ratio. i havent had it in a long time cuz its REALLY sweet and dad is diabetic and he tries to be good. you can also top with whip cream, or berries are always nice. just make sure to tell your guests that it isnt cornbread. it looks like cornbread. so when people bite into it expecting cornbread they're like ?!?!?!?!? haha. but after i told everyone last night what it was, they were a hit. people didnt even have them with any topping i dont think. anyways, try them. they are yummy.
also: a bit of history. i was always told the joke on why its called pound cake. they told me it was because you gain a pound when you eat it. 0.0 nope. the story is that back in the day, they used to bake it in a coffee pound can... weird huh? it was probably like sitting there baking next to the coffee that was strained through the socks... :P thank heavens for technological advances.

So much to this post to comment on! Number one, keeping a notebook handy at all times is a necessity for a writer. You never know when inspiration will hit and you can lose it fast if it's not recorded. Secondly, my mom loved to bake and she used to bake what she called "quick" breads in one and two pound coffee cans. One of my favorites was a dill and onion bread that she baked for my birthday every year. The reason she called them quick was they weren't yeast breads, but raised with baking powder and baking soda.
ReplyDeletethat sounds interesting. :) im not usually a fan on dill. it makes me think of pickles and those are one of the few things i wont eat. but ill try anything once. do you have the recipe for the quick cake? cuz i love onions. haha
